Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are considering making a €40 million offer to sign Chelsea defensive mainstay Marc Cucurella.

Atletico Madrid are on the lookout for more quality out wide on the left flank. Diego Simeone seems keen on bringing in a top-quality left-back, and according to a report from Fichajes, the Argentine manager has his eyes set on Marc Cucurella.

The Barcelona graduate has only gone from strength to strength since joining the London club from Brighton in the summer of 2022. While he has been a touch inconsistent at times, the 27-year-old is certainly back at his best and has been firing on all cylinders of late.

He has been involved in 16 matches for Chelsea and has even bagged two assists. Not only is he an integral part of the London club’s first team under Enzo Maresca, but he is also a prominent figure in the Spanish national team.

Cucurella prefers playing as a left-back or a wing-back, but of late, he has excelled in other positions as well. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs that have taken note of his work.

Cucurella could return to Spain

The Spanish giants are looking for strategic signings to bolster their squad. They have been monitoring Cucurella for months, as they consider him an ideal fit for Simeone’s system. They believe his intensity is exactly what Simeone wants in a new full-back.

The Argentine wants to bolster the left-back position on a priority basis, and the Spanish full-back is a top target for them.
