Everton ready to offload Tim Iroegbunam in January
Everton will reportedly look to part ways with struggling 22-year-old English midfielder Tim Iroegbunam in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Tim Iroegbunam continues to struggle at Everton, with game time coming at a premium for him. The highly-rated English midfielder has mostly managed cameo appearances thus far in the 2025/26 season, and a January departure may be on the cards.
The latest update has revealed that the Toffees are “planning to explore different options for offloading” the Englishman in the winter transfer window. The Merseyside outfit “may be willing to accept less than they originally paid” to ensure a sale. Additionally, a loan exit may also be on the cards.
How has Tim Iroegbunam fared at Everton?
Tim Iroegbunam has struggled to make his mark since joining Everton from Aston Villa in a deal worth £9 million in July 2024. A native of Birmingham, the 22-year-old spent his formative years in the Midlands, starting his youth career with Sutton United before representing West Bromwich Albion at the age-group level for a decade.
The English midfield prospect graduated from the youth division at Aston Villa, but he could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Villa Park. However, the move to Everton has not worked out either, and he has managed only 443 minutes of game time in ten appearances thus far in the 2025/26 season.
What next for Iroegbunam?
With Tim Iroegbunam struggling for regular game time under David Moyes, a January departure from the Hill Dickinson Stadium would be ideal. The situation may worsen in the winter transfer window, as widespread reports have linked Everton with several midfielders, including West Ham United outcast James Ward-Prowse.
So, while Idrissa Gueye will be unavailable for nearly a month due to Senegal’s participation at the Africa Cup of Nations, the situation will not improve for Iroegbunam. Everton will also aim to offload the 22-year-old Englishman in the winter transfer window, and they are exploring “different options” to ensure his sale.
However, recouping £9 million from Iroegbunam’s departure may be a tall order, and Everton may even have to accept a loan exit. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the struggling English midfielder.
