Ibrahima Konate is set to decide his future soon as speculation surrounding his stay at Liverpool continues to rumble on amid rival interest.
Ibrahima Konate’s future is still up in the air as there’s no update on a possible Liverpool agreement. The Frenchman has insisted he will make a decision soon on his future, and will announce as rivals continue to keep tabs on his situation.
Ibrahima Konate’s future is a big subject around Merseyside, as the French defender is yet to give any sort of clarity on his next step. The Centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season, with a host of clubs circling to sign him on a free transfer.
Liverpool are pushing to get a new deal in place with some recent suggestions stating they may have even set an ultimatum to the defender. The repercussions of losing yet another top-notch first-team star on a free transfer, like they lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, although the Spanish side did pay a late fee in the end.
Konate has plenty of suitors around, with the likes of Real Madrid the one considered the favourites. Xabi Alonso wants the Frenchman on his side, as Real Madrid are not only looking at him but also a few other top-notch free agents in the market, such as Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano.
Liverpool are also looking at alternatives just in case the defender departs, although Konate has insisted on his comments that appeared on Sky Sports he will soon decide on his future. HKonate said, “As for me, I’ve seen a lot of things, particularly in the media. I saw that Liverpool made me a new offer recently,” he said.
“I don’t know where that info comes from. But now, my agents are still discussing with Liverpool. I hope my decision will be made and that I’ll be able to announce what I’ll do very soon.”
Will Konate stay at Liverpool?
Liverpool are hoping Konate follows defensive partner Virgil van Dijk into signing a new deal and securing his long-term career at Merseyside. However, there are plenty of factors around that, as Liverpool must offer a competitive contract and a huge salary to tempt him into staying.
If the defender decides against renewing his deal at Anfield, Liverpool are expected to sign a top-notch replacement, with a host of stars like Guehi and Nico Schlotterbeck are seen as options. However, their ideal hope would be to see the Frenchman stay for years to come.
