Fulham remain in contract talks with Marco Silva, but sack threat remains
Fulham reportedly remain in contract talks with Marco Silva, but his position is far from secure amid the club’s struggles.
While Marco Silva has done wonders at Fulham over the years, things haven’t been that great for him of late. The Cottagers haven’t been in the best of form this season, and it has resulted in a lot of talk about his future at the club.
Despite their struggles, Fulham remain in talks with the Portuguese manager over a potential new deal. With his contract running down, they want to secure his long-term future. But according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Cottagers could still sack Silva if he fails to turn things around in the coming weeks.
Pete O’Rourke’s take on Marco Silva’s future
While speaking about Marco Silva’s situation on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said, “He’s out of contract in the summer and I think talks are ongoing over a new contract for Silva. But the problem for Fulham is that Marco Silva doesn’t normally rush into anything. He likes to take his time over contract offers as well.
“If they drop any further in the upcoming weeks, it might force follow them into rethinking what they want to do with Silva and maybe looking for a new manager. I don’t think that’s the plan right now, they want to offer him a new deal to end any speculation.
“But if results don’t improve, there might have to be a rethink on that one. We all know it’s a results business and their results will dictate what happens with the manager’s future at Fulham as well.”
A new deal for Silva?
Marco Silva took charge of Fulham back in 2021, and he has done wonders for them over the years. The 48-year-old has managed them in close to 200 games and has quite an impressive track record.
On the back of all that he has done, the Cottagers want to ensure he continues at the club. With his current contract running out at the end of the season, and a lot of talk about his future, Fulham are looking to hand him a new deal. They want to secure his long-term future.
However, Marco Silva is not looking to rush into a new deal. He wants to take his time, and it could actually work in the club’s favour as they are starting to have doubts about him being the right man to lead them going forward.
The Cottagers could sack Silva
Fulham have had a very disappointing start to the new season. They are 15th on the table with just 11 points in as many outings. If Marco Silva fails to turn things around, they could end up in the relegation battle.
With results not going their way, the Cottagers are considering parting ways with him. Ideally, they would love to have him around for years to come, but at the end of the day, it’s all about the results.
