Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City keen on Joao Gomes
Manchester United are all set to battle Liverpool and Manchester City in their pursuit of Wolves’ midfield mainstay Joao Gomes.
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United were quite active during the last summer transfer window. They ended up making some big money moves and completed a major overhaul in attack. While it has certainly helped their cause, there is still a lot that needs to be taken care of.
The Red Devils are now all set to focus on their midfield. They seek more quality in the centre of the park, and according to Ekrem Konur, United are keen on signing Joao Gomes, and they are set to rival Liverpool and Manchester City in their pursuit of the Wolves midfielder.
Gomes came up the ranks at Flamengo, and after two successful seasons at the Brazilian club, Wolves ended up signing him at the start of 2023. The 24-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since.
Not only has he established himself as a key figure in the team, but he has also managed to break into the Brazil national team on the back of his consistent performances. He now finds himself on the wishlist of the biggest clubs in the country.
Premier League trio to battle for Gomes’ signature
While Gomes prefers playing as a central midfielder, he is more than capable of featuring in any role in the centre of the park. His versatility, along with his track record in England, make him a very interesting option for Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Both Manchester-based giants are looking to secure his services in the next summer window. They seem willing to make a significant investment to get a deal over the line. While Guardiola seeks more quality and depth, Amorim is on the lookout for an all-rounder who could eventually replace Casemiro in the team.
The Portuguese manager is pushing hard to bring him to the club. Apart from City, Liverpool could also complicate matters for United. The Reds are scouting Gomes ahead of a potential transfer. They want someone who can compete with Ryan Gravenberch for a place in the XI, and the Wolves start certainly fits the bill.
