Fiorentina could launch January move for Borna Sosa

Struggling Serie A club Fiorentina may look to sign 27-year-old Croatian international Borna Sosa from Crystal Palace in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Fiorentina Uno, Borna Sosa is the subject of interest from Fiorentina. The Lilies are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a full-back heading into the winter transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Crystal Palace wide player has emerged as a target for the Serie A club.

Paolo Vanoli may look to reunite with his protege in the winter transfer window, and Fiorentina can do with a full-back after losing Tariq Lamptey to a long-term injury. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace may make the Croat available on loan for the second half of the 2025/26 season.

Borna Sosa and his Crystal Palace frustrations

Borna Sosa has struggled to make his mark since joining Crystal Palace from Ajax this past summer. The 27-year-old has been a backup player for the South London club, managing only 410 minutes of game time in seven appearances across all competitions thus far in the 2025/26 season.

Oliver Glasner has handed only one minute of game time in the Premier League to Sosa, preferring the 27-cap Croatian international in the EFL Cup, with Tyrick Mitchell continuing as the first-choice left wing-back. So, a winter exit may be on the cards, with Crystal Palace open to sanctioning a loan deal. The player has no shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with Fiorentina among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Serie A return on the horizon?

Fiorentina’s interest in Borna Sosa is understandable. The Lilies are scouring the market for a full-back heading into the winter transfer window after losing Tariq Lamptey to a long-term injury that will keep him in the treatment room for several months. So, with Robin Gosens the only left-back in the Fiorentina squad, Paolo Vanoli can do with an alternative.

Vanoli joined Fiorentina this past week with the team in the doldrums after falling to the bottom of the Serie A table. With La Viola failing to win a Serie A game thus far, they face a tall order to avoid relegation from the top flight.

Sosa has thus emerged as a viable target, as Vanoli knows how to bring the best out of him. It will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old Croatian international reunites with the Fiorentina manager in the winter transfer window.
