Atletico Madrid rival Tottenham in Ademola Lookman chase
Atletico Madrid have entered the race for Ademola Lookman along with Tottenham, as the Atalanta star could angle a departure.
According to Fichajes, Ademola Lookman continued to attract big attention from top clubs ahead of the January window after the latest update in his transfer saga. Atletico Madrid are now set to enter the race for the Nigerian attacker, while Tottenham are also weighing up a move.
Ademola Lookman was keen to leave Atalanta last summer, when the club held their stance as Inter Milan came very close to signing the attacker. The two clubs failed to reach an agreement as there were differences in valuations, with the gap only a few million, as per multiple reports.
As deadline day approached, Lookman was one of the sought-after attackers available on the market, as Tottenham were eying him as an alternative to Savinho. Ultimately, the 28-year-old Serie A attacker ended up staying at Atalanta and has since had a poor start to the season by the standards he has set previously.
Tottenham are still interested in Lookman ahead of January, as the Nigerian’s spat with coach Ivan Juric has led to fresh speculation over his future in Bergamo. The 28-year-old Serie A attacker is widely tipped to leave Atalanta in January, as his contract that lasts until 2027 puts him in an advantageous position ahead of the winter window.
Atalanta could resist offers in the winter window, although they might consider a sale if the value is right, as next summer their asking price may fall. Tottenham remain keen as they are now looking for a new attacker after key target Morgan Rogers agreed a new deal with Aston Villa, while moves for other options, such as Iliman Ndiaye, look unlikely in January.
Atletico Madrid enters Ademola Lookman chase
Atletico Madrid are planning a few key additions to their attacking setup in the next window, as they are now looking at Lookman as a potential option. Diego Simeone wants to add quality players who help their cause, as well as make plans to keep hold of key stars like Julian Alvarez.
Lookman could be a good option, although the player is expected to evaluate all his options before deciding on his immediate future. A move to Simeone’s side could be an upgrade in his career, but a switch to the Premier League might also entice the 28-year-old Serie A attacker.
