Givairo Read told to ignore Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich interest

Dutch wonderkid Givairo Read has been urged to stay put at Feyenoord and ignore the interest from Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Manchester City for now.

Givairo Read is steadily making a big impression on proceedings with his performances for Feyenoord. Despite being on the books at the former Dutch champions since his move from Voldenam, the right-back truly had his breakthrough campaign last season.

Read made 26 Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord, and has since been shining under Robin van Persie this season. His performances last season drew plenty of interest from big clubs, but the Dutch wonderkid remained at the Rotterdam side and signed a new deal until 2029, which has given the club some strong hold in terms of deciding his future.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are now interested in the defender, as those sides could make an effort to tempt the 19-year-old into leaving Feyenoord. However, there’s a bit of a risk in leaving his development with the Rotterdam club prematurely, which could have a big effect on his future.

Analysts Kees Kwakman and Marciano Vink have strongly urged Read to stay put at Feyenoord through their comments on his future in FR12. They insist that he must resist the temptation brought about by links to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich, to continue developing at Feyenoord.

“I think it’s best for Read if he stays at Feyenoord,” said Kwakman.

“He’s currently playing for the Dutch U21 team and has already played quite a few games at Feyenoord at a young age. Just say ‘no’ to Bayern; you have to be strong.”

“You shouldn’t sign for Bayern, get a ridiculously high salary, and then be loaned out to Austria Vienna, just saying,” added Vink.

“Read is so talented and looks so good. A step up is definitely coming. When I look at his profile and the way he’s performed at nineteen in European matches and with the Dutch U21s, he meets all the requirements to become an international full-back.”

They are not completely wrong in what they have to say about Read and his future, as there are plenty of examples in the recent past to cite. For instance, the likes of Jorrel Hato have not clicked yet at Chelsea despite a big promise of becoming one of the best defenders in Dutch football.

However, Read could also take inspiration from the likes of Jurrien Timber, who has been a roaring success at Arsenal since leaving Ajax. Hence, while those analysts are right to some degree, a player’s development may depend on the atmosphere at the new club as well as his own ability to become a top star.
