Nayef Aguerd returns to Marseille squad for Champions League clash against Atalanta
Olympique de Marseille have been handed a timely boost ahead of their crucial Champions League meeting with Atalanta this Wednesday evening, as Nayef Aguerd has been included in Roberto De Zerbi’s matchday squad.
The Moroccan international was a last-minute absentee in Saturday’s 1-0 win away to Auxerre, having felt discomfort in his hip during the warm-up. However, after taking part in full training at La Commanderie on Tuesday, the 28-year-old centre-back is set to be available for selection at the Stade Vélodrome.
It’s a much-needed piece of good news for De Zerbi, who faces a selection crisis ahead of a make-or-break fixture in Group D. Marseille, who have suffered back-to-back defeats at Real Madrid (2-1) and at Sporting Lisbon (2-1), are in desperate need of three points to keep their qualification hopes alive.
