Bayer Leverkusen plan to exercise €5m buyback option on young Bosnian talent Kerim Alajbegović

Bayer Leverkusen were known to have negotiated a buyback clause when completing the sale of young Bosnian & Herzegovina winger Kerim Alajbegović to RB Salzburg over the summer. It now looks to be the case that the Bundesliga outfit will make use of this in the near future. Alajbegović has scored six goals and contributed one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions for the Austrian Red Bulls this season.

Sport Bild – relayed via transfermarkt.de – claims that the buyback clause is much less than initially reported. The 18-year-old – now capped four times at senior level for B & H – will not cost Germany’s red company team €8m to €10m. Instead, Leverkusen can bring the Köln-native back to the Bundesliga for a fee of around €5m to €6m.

Alajbegović is intended to serve as a pillar of Leverkusen’s rebuild under new head coach Kasper Hjulmand. The versatile youngster can play on both wings and also work as a more deep-lying attacker in the center of the park. Just 17-years-of-age at the time of his sale this summer, Alajbegović didn’t even have an estimated market value when Leverkusen sold him to the Austrian outfit.

Transfermarkt accorded Alajbegović a €5m estimated value in their October 2025 update. There may be other clubs interested in Alajbegović should his development continue apace this season, but the young talent may find it more amenable to move back to the country of his birth in order to better facilitate his career.
