Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are scouting Atletico Madrid attacking mainstay Alexander Sorloth ahead of a potential transfer.
According to Marca via SportWitness, Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of Alexander Sorloth, and they have sent scouts to watch the Norwegian international in action ahead of a potential move.
On the back of an impressive season at Villarreal, the former Crystal Palace forward made the move to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024. Despite not having the best of starts to life at the Madrid-based club and not being a regular starter, the 29-year-old did end up having an impressive debut campaign. He finished with 24 goals and two assists in just over 2,300 minutes of first-team action.
While he still has three years left on his deal at Atletico, Sorloth’s future is becoming a big talking point. The Norwegian international doesn’t seem too invested in their project, and of late, he hasn’t been in the best of form.
More importantly, he is still not a regular starter for them. Julian Alvarez is the first-choice striker under Simeone, and Alex Baena, who is back from injury, is also ahead of him in the pecking order.
Since Sorloth will find it difficult to get regular game time, he could end up pushing for a move away, and clubs are already keeping tabs on his situation. Newcastle United have emerged as a potential destination for the 29-year-old.
Newcastle could make a move for Sorloth
While the Magpies did bring in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa to help them cope with Alexander Isak’s departure, the Tyneside club are still in the market for another number nine. They consider Sorloth an ideal fit for their project and have already scouted him.
Their representatives have been spotted in the stands to watch him play in recent weeks. As reported by Marca earlier, scouts from the English club watched him in action in their 5-2 win over Real Madrid in the derby back in September.
The 29-year-old bagged a goal in that game and had an impressive outing overall. While he hasn’t been at his best in recent weeks, if he does end up putting in decent shifts every time he gets an opportunity, Newcastle could actually make a move for him.
