Morten Hjulmand turned down Manchester United last summer, fresh approach coming

Manchester United are set to return for the signature of Sporting CP skipper Morten Hjulmand in January after failing to sign him during the summer.

According to Ekrem Konur, Manchester United are keen on acquiring the services of Morten Hjulmand in the upcoming winter transfer window. The Red Devils are gearing up to make an offer for the Danish international at the turn of the calendar.

Hjulmand hasn’t looked back since joining the Portuguese giants from Lecce. He has only gone from strength to strength and has established himself as one of their mainstays. The 26-year-old prefers playing in the holding role, but he is capable enough to feature anywhere in midfield if needed.

He has been a standout performer for Sporting, and his consistency has put him on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs. Manchester United have a long-standing interest in him. Their manager, Ruben Amorim, is a massive admirer of the 26-year-old,

The Portuguese manager brought him to Sporting, and now he wants to reunite with him at Old Trafford. Amorim feels the Danish international has everything that is needed to succeed in the English top flight.

United retain interest in Hjulmand

United were keen on his signature in the summer, and they were one of the clubs that knocked on the Portuguese club’s door. Konur suggests Hjulmand turned down an offer that would have tripled his salary, and one of those offers came from Old Trafford offices.

Despite that blow, United haven’t given up on their pursuit of the Sporting skipper. They are now gearing up to make a move in the upcoming winter transfer window. Amorim feels the need to have more quality in the centre of the park, with Casemiro’s long-term future uncertain, Manuel Ugarte struggling to get going, and Kobbie Mainoo pushing for an exit.

Hjulmand’s signing could be just what the doctor has ordered. While United are ready to make a move in the winter window, a lot will depend on Sporting’s stance on his future.
