Newcastle United line up €30 million bid to beat Aston Villa to Pierre Kalulu

Newcastle United are keen to bolster their backline, and they are plotting a €30 million move for Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu.

According to Ekrem Konur, Newcastle United are lining up a €30 million move for Pierre Kalulu ahead of the January window. The Magpies are eager to bolster their backline and add more quality with the Juventus defender now in the spotlight for the Tyneside outfit, and other teams are also interested in signing him.

Pierre Kalulu has been a good addition for Juventus, with the defender arriving on an initial loan in the summer of 2024, and then subsequently signing on permanently last summer. Kalulu has occupied different roles in Igor Tudor’s system, with the manager also using him as a right-sided defender to help push forward.

However, a recent report stated Newcastle United are among those interested in Kalulu ahead of the winter transfer window, and now they are preparing a move. Juventus’s overall stance on a potential sale remains unclear at this point, but the Serie A club might evaluate their position if an offer comes in that suits their finances.

Newcastle United are planning on making a €30 million bid for the 25-year-old defender, who has a long future ahead and is already showing signs of being on par with the quality required in the Premier League. Pierre Kalulu brings a bit of versatility but plenty of physical presence and positional sense.

Kalulu could be a good addition, but he’s not alone on Newcastle United’s list as they are also in the mix for Joel Ordonez. Either of those names could be a good option to bolster their backline, but the Magpies are also eager to keep hold of their existing stars, such as Sven Botman and Fabian Schar, in the near future.

Newcastle United faces Aston Villa threat

Newcastle United are not alone in the mix for Kalulu, with Aston Villa and RB Leipzig being named as suitors in the race. In this scenario, Villa might be the most threatening team for the Magpies in their quest to sign the Frenchman.

Aston Villa have been keen to bolster their backline with a versatile defender, and while Kalulu might not be the absolute fit, he could be seen as a good addition and a market opportunity. Now, the future of the 25-year-old defender will depend on Juventus’s stance, with some corners stating they could potentially consider a big offer that could allow them to reinvest in their own squad.
