Reason for Xabi Alonso to smile after Real Madrid injury report ahead of El Clasico

Real Madrid will head into El Clasico with the majority of their team available for selection for Xabi Alonso. Los Blancos have been dealing with injury issues in defence over the last two months, but Alonso will only be missing one player for their clash with Barcelona.

There was some concern over Raul Asencio, after he left their 1-0 win over Juventus late on with apparent muscle discomfort. However he has not suffered any injury, and will be available, as per Marca. Alonso is also set to get at least four more players back in time for the weekend clash.

Real Madrid to get four players back from injury

Positive reports had been emerging over the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal, who were both racing back to return from injuries in time for El Clasico. Alexander-Arnold has reduced his time out from six to eight weeks out down to five, while Carvajal has cut his recovery period down from a month.

Dean Huijsen and Dani Ceballos were always on course to be fit for El Clasico, but there were some doubts over the former, whose recovery from a muscle issue has taken longer than anticipated after returning from Spain duty. Yet on Friday when Real Madrid return to training, Alonso is set to have all four of them back in time.

Antonio Rudiger out, David Alaba remains a doubt

Antonio Rudiger, who is due to be out until December, is the only player who is definitely ruled out of the game, and there are even slim hopes that David Alaba could be there in time. That is despite the Austrian being ruled out for a week last Sunday.

Selection decisions for Alonso

Alaba was unlikely to start at any rate, and the likelihood is that Huijsen comes back in against Barcelona alongside Eder Militao. The word from the Bernabeu is that Fede Valverde is likely to continue at right-back, as starting Carvajal or Alexander-Arnold is considered a risk after missing the last few weeks of action. However it should give Alonso plenty more options off the bench.
