Milan Set to Try to Bolster Two Positions in January
Milan are off to a fast start and, if they keep going, the management will be ready to shore up the squad with a pair of select additions to fuel their title aspirations in January, TuttoSport informs (via OneFootball).
The Rossoneri hierarchy feels they didn’t finish the job in the summer, but not playing in the cups has allowed them to get away with a tight squad. Under the right circumstances, the main priority will be to find another reliable defender. The back three has worked well so far, as Massimiliano Allegri has revitalized Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia, and Strahinja Pavlovic.
On the other hand, Koni De Winter and David Odogu are the only deputies behind the starters. Furthermore, the Milan higher-ups are pondering whether they have enough quality and depth on the wings.
Alexis Saelemaekers has been a standout performer, but he’s occasionally needed in other roles when there are some absences. Pervis Estupinan has been hit-or-miss. Their backups are two youngsters, Zachary Athekame and Davide Bartesaghi. The former was acquired from Young Boys for €10M last summer. He recently received his first call-up to the Swiss national team. The officials will monitor his performance and intervene if they think he isn’t fully up to snuff.
Our Take on Milan
The less crowded schedule has made up for a key communication error, as the brass realized only late that Allegri would regularly use 3-5-2 rather than 4-3-3. They are shallow, but they are fine as long as they avoid major or multiple injuries. They should definitely pounce if they find some bargains, keeping an eye on the future, as a cup-less season is going to be a one-off.
