Manchester United contemplate re-signing Mason Greenwood, face Barcelona competition
Manchester United are thinking about re-signing Mason Greenwood following a big upturn in his image and form, with Barcelona also keen.
According to Fichajes, Mason Greenwood is a player that Manchester United are thinking about potentially re-signing in the future. Despite the player’s troubled past, the Red Devils are reportedly open to the idea of paying a huge sum to get him back, although they might face competition from the likes of Barcelona.
Mason Greenwood has been a sensational signing for Marseille since his €26 million controversial move from Manchester United in the summer of 2024. There were plenty of backlashes from the French club’s supporters, but the player has steadily improved his image as a player and person since his switch to Ligue 1.
Greenwood was in the spotlight this weekend following his four-goal show against Le Havre, which has rekindled the transfer talk. In fact, it is Manchester United who are linked with re-signing the player despite his troubled past while at the club.
The report states that Manchester United are pondering making a big offer to re-sign Mason Greenwood outright from Marseille, and it could take an offer close to €100 million to prise him away. Now, the story is pointing at the fact that the in-form attacker is a changed man and much improved on and off the pitch.
Manchester United are prepared to bring the Englishman back to his old stomping grounds from a sporting sense, but things are expected to be tough. As per Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Barcelona are being linked now, following the presence of observers from the club during
Marseille’s big win over Le Havre, which indicates the reigning La Liga champions are closely monitoring the €100 million-rated in-form Ligue 1 attacker with a view to making a future approach.
Manchester United unlikely to sign Mason Greenwood
Manchester United could have profited from any deal Marseille would have done to sell Greenwood back in the summer when Saudi clubs were showing an interest. They retain a 50% resale clause, and they now ponder making a big offer to prise him away permanently back to the club. The Barcelona interest aside, Atletico Madrid were also linked, and there will be more in the mix as the season progresses.
While a move away from Marseille is certainly possible, the prospects of Mason Greenwood returning to Manchester United are not seen as viable. Owing to his troubled past and a trigger reaction the fanbase could bring to the table if the club were to re-sign him, the idea of a return to Old Trafford does seem impossible.
