Chelsea line up big-money move for Samu Aghehowa

Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Spanish international Samu Aghehowa from FC Porto in a deal worth over €100 million next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Samu Aghehowa is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are eager to reinforce their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window next year. So, the 21-year-old FC Porto centre-forward has emerged as a target for the West London outfit.

The 2024/25 UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup winners are closely monitoring the Spaniard’s progress at FC Porto. They are willing to pay more than €100 million to secure the services of the Olympic gold medalist. With Chelsea preparing to “break the market” by landing the young striker, a deal may be appealing for all parties.

Samu Aghehowa and his meteoric rise

Samu Aghehowa has enjoyed a stunning rise in prominence since joining FC Porto from Atletico Madrid last year. The 21-year-old had already made his mark during his loan spell with Deportivo Alaves in the 2023/24 season. He also won the gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, that was not enough to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, the Spanish striker enjoyed a solid debut campaign with FC Porto, and he has been hot off the blocks in the 2025/26 campaign. The youngster has scored eight goals in only nine appearances across all competitions thus far. Meanwhile, Samu’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Chelsea will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next summer.

London calling?

Samu Aghehowa has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time.  However, the continued interest is surprising, considering the West London club signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this past summer. Enzo Maresca also has Marc Guiu as a long-term option if the former Barcelona prodigy fulfils his potential.

Nevertheless, several strikers, including Joaquin Panichelli, have emerged on Chelsea’s radar, with Samu also a viable target. The Blues are ready to “break the market” by paying over €100 million to sign the 21-year-old Spaniard from FC Porto next summer.

While recent reports have claimed that the Portuguese giants are reluctant to part ways with the Olympic gold medalist, a bid worth over €100 million may be too enticing to turn down. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Spanish attacking prospect amid his renewed links with Chelsea.
