Liverpool, Tottenham in transfer tussle to sign Morten Frendrup
Morten Frendrup could emerge as an option for Premier League sides looking for a new midfielder, with Liverpool and Tottenham interested.
According to Ekrem Konur, Tottenham and Liverpool are among those keeping close tabs on Morten Frendrup. The Genoa midfielder could be on the move in 2026, possibly even in January, with those interested parties likely to explore an approach in the winter window.
Morten Frendrup could be a smart option for many clubs ahead of the January window, looking to strengthen their midfield setup. The Danish midfielder has been with Genoa since January of 2022, and has been one of their most important star since.
Frendrup is contracted until 2028, which places Genoa in a strong negotiation position, as there is no knowledge of a release clause of some sort attached to the 24-year-old Dane. However, ahead of the winter transfer window, many teams are looking closely at his situation.
Liverpool and Tottenham are some of the teams showing keen interest in the midfielder, as Premier League teams could be looking to strengthen their setup in the area. Those two teams are likely to look at names that are more prominent than Morten Frendrup, but he could prove to be a smart signing in many regards.
Meanwhile, Genoa will now anticipate approaches for the player, which could then see them demand a good enough offer for them to make a considerable sale. Back in the summer, a few clubs showed interest, but none that came forward with an approach of any sort.
Liverpool and Tottenham to explore Morten Frendrup move
Liverpool are thinking about strengthening their midfield in some capacity, and while they have a strong setup as things stand, they could add one more player. A specialist holding midfielder is certainly on the agenda, with the likes of Adam Wharton being linked, but the possibility of signing someone of the Crystal Palace star’s ilk will be difficult in January, which does make Frendrup seem like a smart option.
Tottenham were recently linked with FC Porto Victor Froholdt, who seems like a similar player to Morten Frendrup. However, the two Danish stars could have varied price points, with the Porto star likely to be more expensive owing to a massive release clause in his contract. Hence, Spurs could explore the option of Frendrup if they can figure out a decent deal for the 24-year-old Danish midfielder with Genoa.
