AC Milan keen on Mateo Kovacic

Italian giants AC Milan are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

AC Milan are looking to add more quality to their midfield, and according to a report from Milanlive.it, the Italian giants are keen on signing Mateo Kovacic. They are looking to use Luka Modric’s presence in their dressing room to lure the former Inter Milan star to the club.

After leaving Inter back in 2015, Kovacic had successful spells at Real Madrid and Chelsea before joining Manchester City in the summer of 2023. While he has been an important part of Pep Guardiola’s squad over the years, the 31-year-old’s future has become a big talking point with his contract running out in 2027.

City are not considering offering him a new deal and could be open to his departure next summer. AC Milan see this as a great opportunity to further bolster their midfield by signing yet another experienced campaigner.

AC Milan are pushing for Kovacic’s signature

The Italian giants added Luka Modric to their squad on a free transfer ahead of the ongoing season, and now they are looking to use him to lure his international teammate Kovacic to the club.

Massimiliano Allegri is quite pleased with Modric’s impact and would love to have the City midfielder join him next season. He could end up being an ideal replacement for the former Real Madrid player who will soon turn 41.

The four-time Champions League winner might not have a prominent role at City at this point, but he certainly has a lot of football left in him. Not only can he feature as a central midfielder, but Kovacic is equally effective in a holding role.

Igli Tare has done a great job at Milan since taking charge as their new sporting director. He is looking to further strengthen their squad going forward and has identified Kovacic as a key transfer. With his contract running out, they could secure his services for around €10 million, which certainly seems to be a bargain price.

However, they will have to negotiate a lower wage with the 1994 born midfielder, as they can’t afford to pay him the salary that he currently earns at the Premier League club.
