Liverpool on alert as news of Antoine Semenyo release clause emerges

Liverpool learn about a confidential release clause in Antoine Semenyo’s contract, with Arsenal also showing interest in him.

Antoine Semenyo is on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs in England, and Liverpool are one of them. The Merseyside club retain interest in the Ghana international despite Bournemouth’s reluctance to negotiate his departure.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Liverpool have been put on alert as they learn about a confidential release clause in the 25-year-old winger’s contract. The Reds are willing to push hard for his signature, but could face competition from Arsenal, who are also keeping tabs on Semenyo’s situation.

The Ghana international has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Cherries at the start of 2023. He has been one of the standout performers for them over the last two seasons and has started the 2025/26 season in red-hot form, having scored six goals and bagged three assists in his eight league outings.

Semenyo’s contract has a confidential release clause

The 25-year-olds’ performances have attracted a lot of interest, and Bournemouth will struggle to hold onto him despite the fact that his contract runs until 2030. O’Rourke has revealed that there is a release clause in his contract, which could certainly make life easier for interested clubs.

While speaking about the clause, the transfer expert said: “It doesn’t change it massively, but clubs will be aware of this release clause that there is a certain figure that can be met to allow them to activate it and try and sign Antoine Semenyo rather than trying to negotiate something with Bournemouth.

“Bournemouth are keeping this release clause figure confidential, which they’re well within their rights to do so.

“It would obviously make things easier, this release clause, but I don’t think it’ll change anything in that respect because I think it’ll be a pretty open race for Antoine Semenyo probably next summer.

“There are no doubts that he’s one of the most in-form players in the Premier League and obviously that results in massive interest in his services as well.”

Premier League clubs could battle for Semenyo

Liverpool are very keen on his signature as they consider him an ideal long-term replacement for their star forward, Mohamed Salah. The Reds are expected to push hard for his signature next summer.

While the Cherries continue to keep the clause hidden, that isn’t going to stop Liverpool from trying to lure him away. Since the Merseyside club are now aware of the existence of a clause, it has certainly boosted their chances of securing his services.

But they are not alone in the race as Arsenal are also long-term admirers of the 25-year-old who can feature on either flank. If he continues to perform in similar fashion, other top clubs could also end up making moves for his signature ahead of next season.

While Cherries won’t let him leave that easily, they might not have an option if any club ends up triggering the clause in his contract.
