Borussia Dortmund eyeing Axel Disasi as Nico Schlotterbeck replacement
Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old French defender Axel Disasi from Chelsea to replace Nico Schlotterbeck.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Axel Disasi is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund. The Black and Yellows are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back next year. So, the 27-year-old out-of-favour Chelsea defender has emerged as a target for the Bundesliga outfit.
The German giants are in a spot of bother over Nico Schlotterbeck’s long-term future, as the 25-year-old defender has piqued the attention of several European bigwigs, including Chelsea and Liverpool. So, Disasi has emerged as an appealing target, as the Frenchman has no future at Chelsea.
Axel Disasi and his Chelsea struggles
Axel Disasi has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Chelsea from AS Monaco in a deal worth €45 million in August 2023. The 27-year-old was solid in his debut season, but he did not do enough to become an undisputed first-choice starter. The issues worsened after Enzo Maresca took over as the Chelsea manager, and the West London club loaned him to Aston Villa earlier this year.
However, the French defender managed only 614 minutes of game time in ten appearances for Aston Villa before returning to Chelsea. Meanwhile, Disasi has no future at the West London club, as they are ready to cash in on him at the earliest opportunity. However, the player’s stock in the market is reasonably high, with Borussia Dortmund among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Bundesliga move on the horizon?
Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Axel Disasi is understandable. The Bundesliga giants are in a spot of bother over Nico Schlotterbeck’s long-term future. The German international has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and talks over a new deal have not progressed as well as Borussia Dortmund would have liked.
Additionally, Schlotterbeck has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, particularly from the Premier League. While Borussia Dortmund will focus on tying the 25-year-old to a new contract, they have kept their options open, identifying Disasi as a target. Meanwhile, the French centre-back has no future at Chelsea, and a winter exit is possible.
With Chelsea ready to cash in on Disasi at the earliest opportunity, a move to Borussia Dortmund may be on the cards. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 27-year-old Frenchman.
