Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United line up Malick Fofana swoop
A host of clubs from the Premier League are lining up approaches for Malick Fofana, who could leave Lyon next summer.
According to Caught Offside, Malick Fofana is a key target for many Premier League sides ahead of next summer. The likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are among those keeping close tabs on the player ahead of a future approach, with the Belgian winger likely to depart Lyon next summer.
Malick Fofana’s future could become a big subject of discussion next summer, when the winger is widely expected to leave Lyon. Following a tricky transfer window when the Belgian attacker rejected a few approaches, notably from Everton, Lyon will be happy from the sporting side of things to have kept him at the club.
Lyon are already thought to be in the mix for the Ligue 1 title, with the potential challengers likely to lose Fofana next summer. The winger’s agent recently stated Fofana ‘belongs’ at a top club in the Champions League while explicitly mentioning the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in his comments.
Fofana is indeed ready to leave Lyon next summer amid interest from Liverpool and Chelsea, as there could be a scramble for his signature. Lyon reportedly wants £50 million for the winger, which may fit into the budget of the teams from the Premier League, especially considering he has a long and promising future ahead of him.
Manchester United reportedly held an interest in the summer, and they will continue to monitor the winger’s situation. They are also considering Antoine Semenyo, with Liverpool keen on the Ghanaian, with the two players seen in a similar role on the left wing.
Malick Fofana is headed to the Premier League?
The likes of Liverpool and Chelsea look likely to achieve Champions League football more than Manchester United, and by that logic, Fofana could potentially be headed to one of those clubs. However, neither the Blues nor the Reds considers him as the ideal profile for their teams, which in Liverpool’s case is Semenyo as per many reports.
Chelsea have sufficiently strengthened the side of the attack that Fofana plays, meaning the £50 million-rated winger may not be a priority signing. However, that does not negate the fact that these clubs hold an interest in the Belgian, who could well be on his way to the Premier League one way or another.
