Richarlison open to MLS switch, initial talks held as Tottenham ready to sell
Richarlison could open the doors to an MLS switch in January or in the future, as Orlando City have held talks with his representatives.
According to Football Insider, Richarlison could yet leave Tottenham in the upcoming January window as he could be open to making the move to the MLS. Orlando City have reportedly held talks with the Brazilian’s representatives, although any deal in January might seem extremely difficult for many reasons.
Richarlison’s arrival at Tottenham two years ago marked the sign of a club showing ambitions to grow within the Premier League ranks. However, the player never came close to replicating his Everton form for the north Londoners, which cast doubts over his future at the club during the summer.
Back in the summer, there were suggestions that Spurs were actively looking to sell Richarlison, and a wide range of clubs were seemingly interested in the Brazilian. However, he chose to stay at Tottenham to prove a point, something he has done since the start of the new season under Thomas Frank. The Brazilian has provided three goals and an assist in the opening games, as he takes the load of leading the line.
Despite his bright start to the new campaign, there are some creeping doubts over his long-term future, as Spurs are already looking at Samu Aghehowa as a potential option. As things stand, despite Richarlison’s good form, Frank reportedly views Dominic Solanke as his first-choice striker, which could lead to the Brazilian’s possible exit in January.
Harry Kane is also being linked with a future move, although any such deal will probably only happen next summer. However, in Richarlison’s case, he is reportedly open to the idea of switching to the MLS, where Orlando City have contacted his representatives over a move.
Why a January move for Richarlison is unlikely?
The January window this time around comes with its challenges, as players are risk-averse due to the upcoming World Cup. Stars like Richarlison, especially now that he is playing regularly, the 28-year-old resurgent star may not seek a change in the middle of the campaign.
Hence, a January move may not be on the cards, although Spurs could actively sell him next summer if they can secure a top-notch replacement. Around then, the MLS and specifically Orlando City could be an option for the 28-year-old resurgent star if he does decide to leave Tottenham.
