Agent claims Malick Fofana belongs at clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City

Malick Fofana’s agent, Federico Pena, insisted the winger belongs at a club of Liverpool or Manchester City’s stature, with a 2026 move away from Lyon on the cards.

Malick Fofana was widely expected to leave Lyon alongside other stars following the club’s turmoil in the background. A provisional relegation threatened the French giants and opened the prospect of losing their star names, including Fofana.

Others like Georges Mikautadze and Rayan Cherki departed the club for new challenges, but Fofana stayed put. The winger was uninterested in a move to Everton, as he sought a Champions League playing club if he was to leave Lyon during the summer.

There are many teams interested in Fofana, with most of those from the Premier League, including some that regularly feature in the Champions League. The 20-year-old Ligue 1 sensation’s agent, Federico Pena, has claimed the player is ready for a move next summer after the World Cup.

Pena’s comments on HLN claimed that Fofana belonged at a club of Liverpool or Manchester City’s stature. The ROC Nation General Manager has somewhat hinted at where he might like his client to play next season onwards, with Liverpool among those very keen, as per multiple reports.

Pena Said, “This is the season in which Fofana wants to show himself to the world, especially at the World Cup.”

“If he succeeds, he can move from Lyon to a top 10 club. “At Roc Nation, we strongly believe in him. Liverpool, Bayern, Manchester City, those are the clubs where he belongs.”

Meanwhile, Pena also confirmed that Fofana did not leave in the summer despite some opportunities. He continued, “Fofana feels very appreciated in Lyon. He didn’t want to risk that just like that [by leaving in the summer].

“We tracked down Fofana through our own scouting.” [He is] an extraordinary talent who is gradually ready for a transfer. Next year, the World Cup will take place in the United States, the birthplace of Roc Nation.”

Liverpool are interested in Fofana as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, while the likes of Chelsea have also kept tabs. The fact that Pena has mentioned Liverpool could mean something in the future, as the 20-year-old Ligue 1 sensation could slot in well at the club.

As for the likes of Manchester City or Bayern Munich, there’s always the possibility of signing for those clubs, especially if the player keeps performing at a high level. For now, it appears, Fofana will continue to focus on his efforts to help Lyon and become a big part of Belgium’s squad for the World Cup, as a move away from Lyon is widely expected next summer.
