Kobbie Mainoo increasingly anxious at Manchester United amid exit links

Tottenham and Manchester City are pushing for the signature of Kobbie Mainoo, who is becoming increasingly unsettled at Manchester United.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Kobbie Mainoo is not pleased with his situation at Manchester United. The English international is frustrated by the lack of minutes, and he is pushing for a move away in search of regular game time ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Mainoo has come up the ranks at Old Trafford. He got promoted to the first team at the start of 2023. During an injury-plagued 2023/24 season, he established himself as a key figure in the team under Erik ten Hag. But a lot has changed since Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

The Portuguese manager prefers having Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes in the centre of the park, and Kobbie Mainoo seems to be way down the pecking order. Even Mason Mount and Manuel Ugarte seem to be ahead of him.

Since the 20-year-old was aware that he would not be a regular starter this season, he pushed for a move away during the summer. But Manchester United blocked his exit as they failed to bring in an ideal replacement. Even a loan plea was rejected.

Having had just over 100 minutes of Premier League action so far, Mainoo is now mulling over a loan switch in the winter window. He is becoming increasingly anxious about his prospects of being at the World Cup. Not playing regularly might hamper his chances of making it to Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Premier League rivals want Mainoo

Since the World Cup is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of opportunity, Kobbie Mainoo does not want to miss out on it. Tottenham and Manchester City have emerged as potential destinations for the youngster.

Spurs want more quality in midfield under Thomas Frank. They are closely monitoring him as they believe his versatility and Premier League experience could come in handy. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola is a massive admirer of the 20-year-old’s technical prowess.

Manchester United’s arch rivals feel a loan move is a low-risk way to integrate him into their star-studded squad. As far as Amorim’s team are concerned, they do not want to let him go, even on a temporary basis, as they lack depth in midfield and he could prove to be a valuable cover in case of any injuries.

Kobbie Mainoo to leave on loan?

Reports earlier suggested that United would let the English midfield prospect leave in January if they end up signing another midfielder. However, the latest report from Football Insider suggests a loan move is the only way out for the 20-year-old midfielder.

Mainoo wants to play regularly. While the youngster is committed to Manchester United and wants to succeed at his childhood club, for now, he is desperate to have regular game time. With the 20-year-old Englishman failing to break into Amorim’s team, the fans are now are worried about his pushing to secure an exit, even though it will only be on a temporary basis.
