Marc Guehi feels no obligation towards Liverpool amid Barcelona, Real Madrid links

Marc Guehi does not feel he is obliged to join Liverpool when he leaves Crystal Palace, as others like Barcelona and Real Madrid are in the mix.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool do not have the front seat in the race for Marc Guehi, as the defender does not feel obliged to join the Reds when he leaves Crystal Palace. Real Madrid and Barcelona are also seen as prime contenders, and the defender is now expected to make a decision not based on past experiences.

Liverpool were very close to landing Marc Guehi on deadline day after pursuing the defender for the entire summer window. The Reds were too focused on the Alexander Isak saga, and once they finalised a deal for the Swede, they found an agreement with Crystal Palace for the English defender.

Liverpool have shortages in the backline, and they saw Guehi as the ideal candidate to improve their defensive setup. Despite an agreement on the fee, Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the transfer in the eleventh hour, as Guehi ended up staying at the Eagles despite entering the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park.

The English defender is widely expected to leave Crystal Palace on a Bosman deal, but he reportedly feels no obligation to join Liverpool in the future. The Reds are still in talks to sign Marc Guehi, and they are not ruled out of the race. But the Crystal Palace captain may make a concerted decision based on the offers he has on the table in the summer.

Bayern Munich are keen, while there is concrete interest from Hansi Flick’s Barcelona. The Catalan giants are in the mix for the 25-year-old, as they could see a Bosman move for such a high-quality centre-back as a big coup, given their financial predicament to pay big fees. Hence, the Blaugrana are a big option for Guehi if he were to choose to move abroad.

Real Madrid are in contention for Marc Guehi

Liverpool are also considering Maxence Lacroix as a Guehi alternative, and Real Madrid could deal a double blow to the Reds if they were to seriously enter the race for the Crystal Palace skipper. The Spanish giants are already angling for a move for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate next summer on a Bosman move, and now they may angle for a double deal, with the signing of Guehi.

Some reports have stated that Marc Guehi prefers Real Madrid as his next destination, and given that he feels no obligation to join Liverpool, it could be a bitter blow to the latter. For now, the race for the 25-year-old Crystal Palace star remains wide open, with the team with the best offer and project are likely to win the race next summer.
