Arsenal pleased with Viktor Gyokeres despite struggles
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are reportedly delighted with the kind of start summer signing Viktor Gyokeres has made at the club.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Arsenal are quite pleased with the start Viktor Gyokeres has made following his move from Sporting CP this summer. While he is yet to light up the world, the Swedish international is settling in quite quickly, and his best might come soon.
Gyokeres has not looked back since joining the Portuguese giants from Coventry City back in 2023. The Swede was on fire during his stint at Sporting CP, and on the back of his sensational performances, the Gunners forked out a significant fee to add him to their squad.
The North London club had a blockbuster summer transfer window. They ended up making as many as eight key signings, and Gyokeres was one of the most anticipated arrivals. The striker position has been a big problem for Mikel Arteta’s team over the years.
The Arsenal manager wanted a proven goalscorer who not only adds experience but also has a strong physical presence. The Gunners have finally managed to bring in a profile that meets Arteta’s demands. Since his arrival at the club, the majority of the limelight has been on the 27-year-old, as fans await to see if he can have the kind of impact Arteta wants, thus inviting criticism.
Arsenal have no doubts about Gyokeres
While he has three goals in the Premier League, he is yet to hit top gear, and the recent dry spell has raised a lot of doubts over Arsenal’s summer signing. However, these are just noises, as the North London club seem to have a completely different stance on Gyokeres’ current situation.
The Swedish international’s playing style is completely different to the other options Arteta has at his disposal. While others tend to indulge in build-up play, Gyokeres often stays up top, waiting for the opportunity to pounce.
The North Londoners are aware that it will take time for the 27-year-old to adjust to the team’s system. Even players around will eventually better understand his movements off the ball. They are quite pleased with the start he has had. The Gunners are optimistic that eventually he will live up to the expectations they have of him.
Apart from his performances, the Swede’s commitment, attitude, work-rate and the manner in which he carries himself are exactly what Arteta and his men expected. Arsenal thus have no regrets or doubts about his signing.
