Tottenham ready to trigger £26 million purchase option in Joao Palhinha deal

Tottenham Hotspur signed Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window and they are now looking to sign him permanently.

The Portuguese international has established himself as a key player for the club and he has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League so far. It is no surprise that Tottenham are already looking to make the move permanent. According to GMS, they have an option to sign him for a fee of around £26 million. It is a reasonable fee to pay for a player of his quality and they should look to wrap up the move quickly.

He is an indispensable asset for the club now and he is enjoying his football at the London club. He has no reason to return to Germany. He is not a key player for Bayern Munich and he will not want to sit on the bench with them next season. He will look to sort out his long-term future as well so that he can focus on his football. Joining Tottenham permanently would be ideal for him. It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can finalise an agreement quickly. The reported asking price is quite reasonable for a player of his quality. Palhinha could prove to be a bargain at £26 million.

Tottenham need to keep improving their squad if they want to fight for major trophies. Keeping the Portuguese international at the club for the long term would be a wise decision. They need his quality and physicality in the middle of the park. Furthermore, the Portuguese international has the experience of competing at a high level as well. It is no surprise that he has made an instant impact. It is fair to assume that he will only improve further as he adapts to Thomas Frank’s system.

Tottenham need more quality and depth in the middle of the park and keeping the Portuguese international would be a wise decision.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich will look to get rid of him permanently as well. He is not a key part of their plans and they will be hoping to recoup the £26 million from his departure and use it to improve their squad.
