Paul Merson claims Oliver Glasner is not the right fit for Manchester United
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner amid uncertainties surrounding Ruben Amorim.
Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has warned that 51-year-old Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is not the right fit for Manchester United.
, “Oliver Glasner has been incredible at Crystal Palace. What a job he’s done there – it’s unbelievable really. He’s a brilliant manager. He doesn’t get too up and doesn’t get too down. It’s very impressive. He’s put a team together and they are all very comfortable in their positions. Everyone knows their job in the team. He has the players for the system and that’s huge.
“Let’s say Ruben Amorim was the manager at Palace now, he’d half have a chance of being a success. Palace have the players to play three at the back. They have the attributes in their squad to play in that system.
“For me, that’s why I’d be concerned about Glasner going to Man Utd. He’s a three-at-the-back man and it is being proven that it is a system that just doesn’t fit the players at Man Utd. Of course, I’m sure he’d be adaptable, and he’s proven with how he handles the players, but the system he uses is just all wrong for United. Amorim can tell you that.”
Glasner has done an exceptional job at Crystal Palace and he helped them win the FA Cup and the Community Shield recently. Crystal Palace are currently unbeaten in 18 matches across all competitions. There is no doubt that he is a quality manager. He has previously proven his quality in Germany as well. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United decide to make a move for him.
Manchester United might need to change managers
Manchester United have started the season poorly, and they are unlikely to be able to fight for major trophies. The Red Devils have already crashed out of the EFL Cup. Ruben Amorim was backed heavily in the transfer market, and he was expected to guide them to a top-four finish this season and fight for trophies.
A top-four finish seems highly unlikely given the way they have started the season. It will not be a surprise if Manchester United decide to change managers in the coming weeks. The results will have to improve quickly, or else the club hierarchy could pull the trigger.
The Portuguese manager is under a lot of pressure, and it is no surprise that Manchester United are looking at potential alternatives. Oliver Glasner has been one of the candidates on the struggling Premier League club’s wishlist.
Meanwhile, Glasner could be attracted to the idea of managing Manchester United. The Red Devils are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they have the resources to sign top-quality players. He will be hoping to compete for major trophies with them. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United try to make a move for him in the coming weeks.
