Liverpool close to sealing €74 million deal for Jarrad Branthwaite

Liverpool are rumoured to be closing in on a controversial move to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton in a €74 million deal.

Fichajes have reported that Liverpool are closing in on a controversial move for Jarrad Branthwaite in a €74 million deal from local rivals Everton. Whether there’s any truth to the rumoured move remains to be seen, as the defender is widely expected to attract some of the biggest suitors, including the Merseysiders.

The idea of a move for players between Everton and Liverpool is not unheard of, but in recent years, there has rarely been a case of that sort. However, the topic of Jarrad Branthwaite could divide emotions, particularly if anyone believed the report that states the Reds are close to signing the defender.

Liverpool are interested in Branthwaite, as they view the 23-year-old Premier League defender as a long-term option for their project. The Everton star is a player on top of the list of many clubs, and in Liverpool’s case, they probably view him as a strong contender to succeed Virgil Van Dijk.

The report stated that Liverpool are on the verge of signing Branthwaite in a €74 million deal, although it fails to detail the reasons why Everton are selling the 23-year-old Premier League defender. Hence, one must take the rumour with a pinch of salt, although that does not rule out a potential move in the future to Anfield.

The idea of Everton selling their star defender to local rivals Liverpool may not materialise, especially after Branthwaite signed a long-term deal with the club. There might be a case that Liverpool couil;d potentially target Branthwaite in the near future, but the idea that they have already agreed a deal in the region of €74 million seems a bit off the mark.

Jarradn Branthwaite’s future is at Everton

Everton are unlikely to lose Branthwaite anytime soon, particularly not for the €74 million Liverpool are rumoured to pay. Even then, they will have plenty of other clubs to sell Branthwaite to, which include Manchester United, who were recently linked with a move and paying similar figures.

A host of other clubs are also keen, but Everton are keen for Branthwaite to be one of the star performers at the newly-opened Hill Dickinson Stadium for years to come. Hence, while the prospect of signing for Liverpool could appeal to the player to a certain degree, the prospect of him joining them in a €74 million deal seems a bit absurd given the circumstances around the 23-year-old Premier League defender.
