Mikel Arteta wants Bukayo Saka to sign a new deal

Mikel Arteta would love for Bukayo Saka to sign a new contract at Arsenal following William Saliba’s decision to commit his future to the club.

Arsenal had a tremendous summer window with the club managing to make some important decisions with surprising swiftness. Not only did they get in eight new faces through the door to massively improve their first team squad, new Sporting Director Andrea Berta also managed to renew deals for key stars.

Berta oversaw the renewals of teenage duo Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, while he also agreed fresh terms with key defender Gabriel Magalhaes. After the transfer window ended, the next key target for the Sporting director was to find agreements with the key duo William Saliba and Bukayo Saka.

David Ornstein reported on Thursday that Saliba had committed his future to Arsenal. Despite having big interest from Real Madrid, the Frenchman is on the verge of signing a new five-year deal. Mikel Arteta was asked about the defender’s decision, to which the manager stated his pleasure without confirming the same, as he suggested he would speak more once the club officially announces it.

As is Arteta’s nature in press conferences when it comes to talking about players, either with new arrivals or contract renewals, he rarely talks about anything before it is official news. However, when asked about Bukayo Saka’s potential new contract, he was relatively open and positively gave his thoughts, as his comments suggest on Fabrizio Romano’s post on X.

Arteta said, “I will love that!”.

“It’s a player that is extremely happy and proud to have the role that he has. Things will develop naturally. Everyone knows how important Bukayo is for us. Hopefully, we can do it”.

As for the new seal, Berta was ready to make Saka the highest-paid player at the club, and alongside Saliba, the pair would be one of the top bracket stars. He had been making progress in talks with Saka, and it appears only a matter of time before the winger commits his future to the club.

Arteta’s comment is a big positive that showcases the direction of travel regarding Saka’s contract situation. Naturally, should he reject, there will be so many clubs in the mix to sign the England international, but as things stand, Saka is poised to agree a new deal in the coming period.
