Manchester United want to sign Nayef Aguerd
Manchester United could contemplate bringing Nayef Aguerd back to the Premier League in what appears to be a surprise link for the defender.
According to Fichajes, Nayef Aguerd is being linked with a surprise return to the Premier League amid Manchester United’s interest. The newly-signed Ligue 1 defender has been putting in some accomplished performances for Marseille this season, which makes it extremely difficult to envisage a January move.
Manchester United suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League, which extends the record of not being able to post back-to-back wins in the league since the start of last season. One of the big factors in their loss to Brentford was the performance of their defenders.
Hence, it’s no surprise that there are some active links to refer to reinforcements ahead of the January deal, not about the Brentford result but their overall performances this term across all competitions. The club had been looking out for a left-footed centre-back as well as wing-backs, with the likes of Federico Dimarco linked for the latter role.
Real Sociedad’s Jon Aramburu is another name on their list for the wing-back role, while a few centre-back options are being discussed. For instance, Manchester United remain linked with Jarrad Branthwaite, but any move for the Everton star is near impossible either in January or even next January.
There’s a new name, which may come as a big surprise, as Manchester United are now linked with a move for newly-signed Ligue 1 defender Nayef Aguerd. The Moroccan joined Marseille in the summer from West Ham in a €23 million deal, and has so far been solid under Robert De Zerbi.
Manchester United have no chance with Nayef Aguerd
Marseille are not even thinking about selling or loaning Aguerd in the January window, given how good he has been so far this season. Having made the necessary investment in signing the Moroccan from West Ham, the link with Manchester United is rather surprising and probably just a rumour.
Manchester United may view his experience as a big factor to make the addition, although the chances of Marseille letting him leave are remote to none. Unless Manchester United decides to pay an absurd amount of money in January, there’s hardly any chance or credibility with this link.
