Napoli and Conte Looking to Extend Impressive Streak

Napoli will have the opportunity to be top of the league on their own at the end of Round Four since Juventus, the only other team that had stayed perfect in the first three matches, dropped points against Hellas Verona on Saturday.

The Partenopei are looking to bounce back from their first stumble of the season. They were defeated by Manchester City midweek in the Champions League as a result of an early red card. The Antonio Conte-led franchise boasts the longest active streak of positive results in the top five leagues, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays (via Mediaset).

Napoli haven’t lost in seven months, since February 23rd, when they were upset by Como. They have picked up at least a point in the ensuing 15 domestic tilts. Bayern Munich (13) and Borussia Dortmund (11) trail them by a few fixtures. Juventus (9) are the closest ones as far as Italian teams are concerned.

The Azzurri are aiming for their third Scudetto in four seasons. They have never won two in a row in their history. While the soft match-up represents a juicy opportunity, the most superstitious fans might not mind a slip-up since they have never been taken home the title after prevailing in the first four fixtures.

Conte will rotate his men, given the short turnaround. Alex Meret is expected to return to the XI after Vanja Milinkovic-Savic manned the sticks in the past two bouts. Stanislav Lobotka is the most likely to get a breather among the Napoli linchpins, with Billy Gilmour filling in. However, Frank Anguissa and Scott McTominay are candidates too. Elijf Elmas and David Neres would step in eventually. Amir Rrahmani is poised to return from a thigh strain.
