Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Tottenham vying for Julian Brandt

Julian Brandt represents a big opportunity for teams like Aston Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle United to sign an experienced attacking midfielder in January.

According to Caught Offside, Julian Brandt could be the subject of intense interest from Premier League teams ahead of January. The 29-year-old German playmaker is in the final year of his deal, as Borussia Dortmund might consider cashing in on him early rather than lose him for nothing next summer, as Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham are all keen.

Julian Brandt is no longer a guaranteed starter at Borussia Dortmund, having lost that role steadily as last season progressed. With some arrivals in the summer, and the 29-year-old German playmaker entering the final year of his deal, there’s a distinct possibility of a January departure.

Teams from the Premier League are quite excited by the prospect of having an opportunity to sign an experienced playmaker for relatively low fees. Aston Villa are interested in Brandt, while Newcastle United are also looking closely at his situation before they can decide on a potential approach ahead of the winter window.

Newcastle United did sign Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa in January, although the availability of Brandt on a relatively cheap price could pique their interest. While they are not desperate for an attacking midfielder, the ready availability of the 29-year-old German playmaker would be seen as a massive addition in the context of how they would like to finish their season.

Aston Villa also signed Harvey Elliott late in the summer window, with the former Liverpool star very much capable of playing in the attacking midfield role. Unai Emery’s side are also keen to offload Emiliano Buendia, as Brandt could be his successor, that too at a relatively affordable price.

Tottenham are looking at Julian Brandt

Tottenham were desperate for an attacking midfield signing throughout the summer, having failed with a move for Morgan Giggs-White, Eberechi Eze and Nico Paz. Moreover, they lost James Maddison to a potential season-ending ACL injury, which made the need for a player in the role imperative, although they did sign Xavi Simons around the end of the window.

Whether Tottenham are ready to make a move for Brandt remains to be seen, but they are interested in the 29-year-old German playmaker. However, ahead of January, they are in the market for reinforcements, but are already looking at a different kind of midfielder, such as Conor Gallagher, who may not be a prominent attacking midfielder, but someone who could play there.
