Federico Chiesa could pursue summer exit from Liverpool
Italian international Federico Chiesa could look to leave Liverpool next summer despite his love for the club.
According to Dean Jones via TEAMtalk, Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool is now uncertain. While the Italian international is loving life at Anfield, he could look to leave the club next summer if he doesn’t get regular first-team action.
However, the 27-year-old has to be very careful with his next step, as leaving Liverpool will most likely mean a step down in his career. There is interest in his services from Italy, so he could end up securing a return to his homeland.
Dean Jones’ take on Chiesa’s future
While speaking about Chiesa’s future, Jones said, “Chiesa knows he has to be very careful about how he manages this moment of his career.
“He seems to love being part of Liverpool, and they see him as a very useful player. He is patiently waiting for his opportunity to shine.
“Obviously, he cannot wait around forever, but, equally, wherever he goes next is likely to be a step down in level.
“There will be opportunities in January for him to move and a switch back to Italy will definitely be possible – but the player has to be sure that the team fits him properly in order to reach his own heights and produce his best form.”
Chiesa had an impressive start to life at the senior level. After making a name for himself at Fiorentina, he ended up joining giants Juventus. The 27-year-old also played a massive part in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph back in the day.
While he was widely regarded as one of the best wingers in the world, things went downhill for him because of multiple injuries. He ended up joining Liverpool in the summer of 2024 with the hope of reviving his career.
The Reds had high expectations from the Italian winger. However, his debut season did not go as planned, as he managed only 14 appearances due to competition for places and injury troubles.
Chiesa keen on making it work at Liverpool
The 27-year-old is now back fit and eager to prove himself at Anfield. While he had the option to leave the club this summer, Chiesa decided to continue at the Merseyside club as he wanted to fight for his place in Arne Slot’s team.
While he hasn’t had enough minutes so far, Chiesa has certainly made quite an impact, having bagged an important goal against Bournemouth on matchday 1. However, he was left out of their Champions League squad by Slot and, having signed Alexander Isak on deadline day, the former Juventus winger might not have as many minutes as he expected to.
While the Dutch manager hopes to hand him regular minutes going forward, it will be interesting to see how things pan out. Chiesa will certainly have the option to leave in the winter window, but he might stick around until the summer, as he could be a regular starter for then during January, when Mohamed Salah will be away for the Africa Cup of Nations.
If the 2025/26 season doesn’t go according to plan for the 27-year-old, he could certainly push for a move away next summer.
