Endrick Felipe misses U20 World Cup spot to focus on Real Madrid

Endrick Felipe could be in line for his first Real Madrid appearance of the season this weekend up against Espanyol.

Los Blancos have been perfect so far this season with four La Liga wins from four matches played so far.

Xabi Alonso’s side also opened up their 2025/26 UEFA Champions League campaign with a victory as two Kylian Mbappe penalties saw off Marseille in midweek.

However, it is back to the day job on September 20, with in form Espanyol also unbeaten in league action as they arrive in the Spanish capital.

Alonso will be without defensive trio Antonio Rudiger, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen with the latter suspended for one game and the other two sidelined through injury.

Despite the negative news on Trent and Rudiger, Endrick has finally been given the given light by Alonso’s medical team, after missing preseason and the opening weeks of 2025/26.

Alonso resisted offers to send him out on loan this summer and he will remain with the squad until the end of 2025 despite an initial call up to the Brazil squad ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Ramon Menezes had initially indicated his plan to take Endrick to the tournament in Chile, but he has since been left off the 21-man squad, alongside omissions for Chelsea Willian Estevao and former Barcelona attacker Vitor Roque.

Menezes has indicated clubs not being willing to release players played a role in his decisions but Endrick’s situation is motivated by the teenager wanting to get back to full fitness at Real Madrid.

The 19-year-old played a rotating role in his debut 2024/25 campaign under Carlo Ancelotti with just three league starts – and 19 substitute appearances – with one goal.

He fared better in other competitions in his opening months with five goals scored in the Copa del Rey and one in the Champions League.
