Arne Slot’s Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Ajax defensive sensation Youri Baas.

According to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool have their eyes set on Youri Baas and could make a move for him in the future. Arne Slot is believed to be a big admirer of the Dutch centre-back and feels he could be an ideal fit for his system.

Baas joined the Ajax youth setup back in 2018. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team in 2021. While he struggled to get regular game time in the initial years, an impressive loan spell at NEC Nijmegen helped him steadily gain a prominent role in the team.

He was involved in 39 matches last season and did put in some consistent performances in the heart of the defence. The 22-year-old even chipped in as a left-back when needed. His ability to anticipate and intercept, along with his ball-playing skills, has caught the attention of quite a few top clubs.

While his contract at Ajax runs until 2028, the Dutch club are aware that if a top European club comes knocking with a significant offer, they won’t be able to stand in Baas’ way. Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for the 22-year-old.

With Virgil van Dijk also in the final phase of his career, Slot wants to be prepared for the long run.
