Barcelona star confirms desire to sign new contract – “I want to stay here”
Barcelona sporting director Deco has a number of contract situations to finalise in the coming weeks, and one of them involves Andreas Christensen. The defender is in the final year of his current deal, and so far, there has been no clarifications as to whether his Catalonia stay will be extended.
Christensen joined Barcelona from Chelsea in 2022, and during his three years at the club, he has been a very consistent performer. However, there are concerns about his injury record, and coupled with plans for a new centre-back to be signed next summer, it is not guaranteed that he will be offered a renewal.
But that is actually what Christensen wants, with MD reporting that the Denmark international desperately wants to stay at Barcelona beyond the end of his current contract.

Christensen publicly confirms desire to stay at Barcelona
And he has now confirmed this report, doing so during the pre-match press conference (via Diario AS) before Barcelona’s Champions League opener against Newcastle United.
“Last year was difficult for me. I said no to the national team because I wanted to stay here and have a good pre-season. They accepted my proposal. I think renewing I have expressed my feelings and my love for the club. I want to stay here.”
Christensen was the favourite to be sold by Barcelona during the summer transfer window, and he had a lot of interest shown in his services. But when Inigo Martinez, it was firmly decided that he would continue, although that has not yet changed the situation regarding his contract, as there is still a big chance that he departs as a free agent in nine months’ time.
For now, it remains to be seen what decision is made by Deco, but much could depend on how Christensen performs throughout this season.
