Bruno Fernandes could consider Manchester United exit if struggles continue

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes could look to part ways with the club if their struggles continue.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Bruno Fernandes could choose to leave Manchester United in 2026. The Portuguese international may reconsider his position if the club fails to show any significant progress this season.

The 31-year-old has been on the wishlist of multiple Saudi Pro League clubs for a while, and they could certainly reignite their interest if he decides to part ways with the Premier League outfit.

O’Rourke on Fernandes leaving United

While speaking on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said: “I would fully expect that Saudi interest to continue. It hasn’t really gone away.

“There was talks held with his agent and everything else, but Fernandes decided to stay at Manchester United.

“He is happy at United right now, but I think a lot will depend on how Man United do this season.

“If they were to endure another struggle in the Premier League and everything else, then Fernandes could reconsider his position at the end of the season and move on.

“If Fernandes does decide to move, look, there’s been no shortage of interest from the Saudi Pro League.

“Look, once the World Cup and everything is done next year, if Man United still are not showing any progress under Amorim, that will maybe go along with deciding Fernandes’ future and what he wants to do.”

Fernandes joined the Manchester-based giants back in 2020 from Sporting CP in a deal worth €55 million. The Portuguese attacking midfielder has only gone from strength to strength over the years and is widely regarded as one of the best in his position.

While he has been one of their standout performers, the club haven’t been at their best for a while. United reached an all-time low last season as they finished 15th in the Premier League, and they have had a poor start to the new season despite having made significant additions in the summer.

Fernandes could choose to leave

Ruben Amorim hasn’t been able to turn things around, and the pressure has started to mount on the former Sporting boss. If their struggles continue, it might have a massive impact on Fernandes’ future.

The 31-year-old had the opportunity to leave the club this summer. Multiple clubs from the Middle East wanted him and were ready to hand him lucrative deals. They even held talks with his agents, but Fernandes turned down the opportunity in favour of staying at Old Trafford.

The United skipper wanted to help his team bounce back after a disappointing campaign last time out. However, things haven’t gone according to plan for them. The team continues to struggle, and he could now reconsider his position.

If they have a similar season this time around, Fernandes could choose to leave the club at the end of the season. Meanwhile, United could also look to cash in on him, as it will help them bolster their squad as a whole.
