Aston Villa prioritising Youri Tielemans renewal, in contract talks with John McGinn

Aston Villa are prioritising contract renewals for key midfield duo Youri Tielemans and John McGinn after exit links during the summer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Aston Villa are prioritising new deals for key midfield duo Youri Tielemans and John McGinn. Talks over a fresh agreement have already begun with the latter, while Monchi is eager to secure the long-term future of the Belgian international to ensure continuity of their project under Unai Emery.

Aston Villa have not had the best start to their season, as they are yet to win a game and even score a goal after four matches. Unai Emery has come under a bit of pressure following terrible results, but there is faith in the manager from the board so far.

Aston Villa also ended their transfer window with some decent signings at the end of it, as Emery will once again target a return to the UEFA Champions League. With the window now shut, the focus has shifted to contract renewals as the club are now prioritising new contracts for key midfield duo Youri Tielemans and John McGinn.

With McGinn, talks are already underway and moving in the right direction, with the Scotland international expected to extend beyond his current deal that expires in 2027. There was admiration for the midfielder during the summer, although Aston Villa were uninterested in selling him as Everton and Newcastle United lurked around.

McGinn wanted to stay at the club and continue his journey as he is approaching 300 appearances for Aston Villa. For now, the contract negotiations with the Scotland international are much advanced than his midfield colleague, and Monchi would want to keep the key midfield duo for the long-term future.

Youri Tielemans is a key figure at Aston Villa

Aston Villa are also prioritising a new deal for Tielemans, with talks likely to begin over an extension in the upcoming period. The Belgian midfielder also has his current contract expiring in 2027, as there is a danger of losing him at a discount next summer. Tlelemans had some interest from clubs during the summer, with Atletico Madrid one of those keen during the window.

Fenerbahce were also interested in the summer, although Aston Villa had no interest in letting the Belgian depart. Emery considers him a key part of his plans and has given his approval to extend his stay at Villa Park. The upcoming period will make it clear if the club are moving along in the right direction with the Youri Tielemans renewal, and a new deal for John McGinn could be close.
