Inter Earmark Bayern Munich and Club Brugge Defenders

Inter didn’t technically add to their defense during the summer, swapping out Manuel Akanji for Benjamin Pavard, but they plot to do so in the near future and have set sights in particular on Dayot Upamecano and Joel Ordonez, Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto report (via OneFootball).

The former interests the Nerazzurri in particular for his contractual situation. His deal is up in 2026, and Bayern Munich is on the fence about renewing it, even though he’s been a linchpin with Vincent Kompany at the helm. It’ll depend on how the negotiation goes. He makes about €5M net currently, Calcio e Finanza indicates.

Inter would pounce on Upamecano if he were available on a Bosman transfer, while they would have to empty their coffers for Ordonez. He stayed put during the summer despite being chased after by Olympique Marseille and Al-Hilal. Club Brugge resisted, like in Ardon Jashari’s case, and the suitors weren’t as determined as Milan.

The 21-year-old moved to Belgium, starting at Club NXT, from Independiente for €4M in 2022. He has logged 84 appearances with his current team, scoring 4 goals and providing 2 assists.

Our Take on Inter Eyeing Upamecano and Ordonez

It’d be a stunner if they didn’t sign multiple young-ish defenders next summer, and they probably won’t splurge for multiple ones. If Oumar Solet resolves his legal troubles during the season, he’ll be a priority target. It’s hard to believe Bayern Munich would lose a regular in his prime for nothing, while acquiring the Club Brugge star would require a sizeable investment. They more than alluded that they were ready to make a splash for the right player, but they ultimately didn’t.
