Newcastle United made late move for Davide Frattesi
Newcastle United attempted a late move for Davide Frattesi, but several factors around the chase ensured the pursuit cooled down before deadline day.
According to Fabrizio Romano on YouTube, Davide Frattesi was a late target for Newcastle United, as they considered a move following injuries to key midfielders. While Inter Milan were somewhat open, it would have taken a massive offer to get the midfielder, although factors around the time of the transfer deadline day ensured the pursuit cooled down.
Newcastle United faced an unusual summer window, where they were rejected by many of their key targets while facing the mammoth saga that was Alexander Isak. They probably anticipated a huge sale of the Sweden international, which explains their late flurry of moves in the market.
Nick Woltemade arrived before even the Swede left, while Yoane Wissa was signed as Isak’s replacement on deadline day. They also signed Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, and while that move may have ended any chance of another midfield recruit, the Magpies were still angling for one late in the window owing to factors such as injuries.
Davide Frattesi was a reported target for Newcastle United while they negotiated a deal for Ramsey. The 25-year-old midfielder was probably an alternative to the former Aston Villa star, although it appears they made a fresh approach late in the window as they had to deal with injuries to Joelinton and Sandro Tonali after the Liverpool game.
Newcastle United attempted to sign Frattesi, but Inter Milan indicated they wanted to keep hold of the midfielder at the time. The Nerazzurri were reportedly open to a deal if they were to receive a massive offer to sell the 25-year-old midfielder, but the Magpies changed their minds after it became clear that Tonali’s injury was not serious at all.
Davide Frattesi’s Inter Milan future in question?
Frattesi was a key star for Inter Milan last season, especially in the UEFA Champions League, where he scored some crucial goals. Under former boss Simone Inzaghi, he was barely a starter and mostly someone to impact off the bench, and that seems to be the case with new manager Cristian Chivu, as the 25-year-old Serie A midfielder has not featured in the opening two games.
Back in the summer, clubs like Tottenham were interested. Reports then indicated that Davide Frattesi could sign a new deal at Inter Milan, although such a thing has not been forthcoming so far. Hence, should the midfielder continue to play less under Chivu, a move away from San Siro in January may be on the cards.
