Manchester City wanted summer move for Bradley Barcola

Manchester City mulled over signing 23-year-old French attacker Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window before a deal failed to materialise.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Bradley Barcola was the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Citizens were eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain attacking sensation was a target for the Merseyside outfit.

Apart from Manchester City, Bayern Munich also pursued the Frenchman’s signature in the summer transfer window. However, a summer move to the Premier League did not materialise, as Savinho did not depart from the Etihad amid his links with Tottenham Hotspur.

Bradley Barcola and his meteoric rise

Bradley Barcola has established himself as one of the best players in Ligue 1 since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Lyon in August 2023. The 23-year-old did not take long to find a stable footing at Parc des Princes, and he has made significant progress in the last two years.

The French international has become a regular for his club and country due to his progress at PSG. Barcola has amassed 27 goals and 31 assists in 107 outings thus far for PSG. Meanwhile, the youngster’s exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester City has been among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City wanted Barcola

Bradley Barcola has been on Manchester City’s radar for a long time. The interest has made sense due to the uncertainties surrounding Savinho’s long-term future. With attackers apart from Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush struggling to chip in with regular goals, Manchester City needed a new wide attacker.

So, Barcola emerged as a viable target for Manchester City, and the Premier League giants competed with Bayern Munich for his signature. However, a move did not materialise, as Savinho remained at the Etihad beyond the summer transfer window despite his relentless links with Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, convincing PSG to part ways with the 23-year-old Frenchman was a tall order, and a deal may not have materialised despite the lure of joining Manchester City. It will be interesting to see if the Citizens return for Barcola’s signature next year.
