Christian Eriksen set to join VfL Wolfsburg as deal agreed
Christian Eriksen is set to sign a contract with Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg and join them in a late move following his release from Manchester United.
According to Fabrizio Romano, VfL Wolfsburg have convinced Danish veteran Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. The Danish star was released by Manchester United after his contract expired there, and amid interest from elsewhere, he will now link up with compatriot Peter Christiansen at Wolfsburg.
Manchester United had many players coming to the end of their deals, and none of them got an extension of sorts to stay at the club. Christian Eriksen was part of that group, as the Danish star was released and had been training with Malmo to keep himself fit.
Many clubs were interested in signing him on a free transfer, as some English sides might have been in the mix. German giants Bayer Leverkusen were interested, and earlier, there was former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, but since his sacking, Danish manager Hjulmand has taken over. The German side had some pull in luring the Danish midfielder, but they have seemingly lost the race.
VfL Wolfsburg are the ones who have won the race for the veteran playmaker, as they too have a Danish boss in Peter Chriastensen. It appears Eriksen has been convinced to join Wolfsburg over other suitors, with only formalities that remain before they can announce the former Manchester United star.
Eriksen’s contract details with Wolfsburg are still unclear, but one might assume it could be a shorter-term deal rather than a long contract. The 33-year-old is probably in the final stretch of his career, and this is the first time he will feature in the Bundesliga.
Christian Eriksen will bring experience to Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg have finished mid-table or lower in the last few seasons, and Christiansen will want to bring the team higher up in the standings, with a European finish likely to be on their agenda. Hence, a signing such as Eriksen would be important in the context of their campaign.
The veteran playmaker will bring enormous experience to the team, and that could prove the difference for Wolfsburg in finishing mid-table or higher. Moreover, Eriksen also gets to play regularly, as he will want to be at his best when Denmark plays in the World Cup next season.
