Manchester United looking to replace Ruben Amorim with Unai Emery

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Aston Villa’s Unai Emery in case they end up relieving Ruben Amorim in the near future.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are keeping a close tab on Unai Emery and consider him a potential option to replace Ruben Amorim. The latter’s job is currently safe at Old Trafford, while the Aston Villa boss has come under the microscope following a disastrous start to the season.

There are two ways to look at Manchester United’s start to the season: the fact that they are above ‘title-contenders’ Manchester City, while they were also ousted by Grimsby Town from the Carabao Cup second round. Following the defeat to the minnows, many had seriously questioned Ruben Amorim’s immediate future, but a narrow win over Burnley, as well as climbing above Manchester City, may have changed the thinking.

Overall, Manchester United needs an immediate turnaround in form, as they face Manchester City and Chelsea next in the Premier League. Should the club end up losing those two games and then continue with their slump under the guidance of Amorim? There were rumours linking names like Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner recently as his replacement, but the feeling is that the club are sticking with Amorim.

Amorim’s job is currently safe, but that status could change instantly if results continue to evade the under-fire Manchester United manager. It remains to be seen how strong the club’s stance is on the Portuguese boss, given that the fan sentiment could potentially already be against Amorim, based on the terrible results he has under his belt.

Manchester United are also aware of the financial implications of sacking Amorim, but they may have no choice if the club’s trajectory continues to point downwards. They are keeping an eye on the market situation, as they may have identified a strong contender to replace the Portuguese man. Unai Emery might be that name, as he was linked with the Manchester United job earlier in the year, when Amorim came under scrutiny.

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Unai Emery

Away from Manchester United, Aston Villa have arguably had a more terrible start to the new campaign. Unai Emery has had a difficult summer, where the club were inactive for large parts before getting in some key signings before the deadline. However, their form currently reads two losses and a draw, while the club have failed to score a goal so far.

Manchester United are alert to the 53-year-old former Arsenal manager’s situation, especially if Aston Villa decide to part ways if results continue to go against the Basque boss. They might view Emery as a viable candidate to replace Amorim, but for that to happen, many factors may have to fall in place; nevertheless, it’s a big possibility.
