Crystal Palace set to sign Dan Casey as deal agreed
Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace are all set to acquire the services of 2007-born Arsenal academy product Dan Casey.
According to the London Evening Standard, Dan Casey is all set to undergo a medical at Crystal Palace today, following which there will be an official announcement of his transfer. The Eagles have agreed on a compensation package with Arsenal for the teenage sensation.
Casey’s time at Arsenal has come to an end
Dan Casey has been a part of the Arsenal youth setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and, of late, he has been a part of their Under-18s. Last season, he was involved in a total of 32 matches and ended up contributing towards 22 goals in just over 2,000 minutes of first-team action.
Three of those appearances came for the Under-21s. While the 18-year-old is quite highly rated by people at the North London club, his future has been a massive talking point because of his contract situation. Casey was not keen on extending his stay at Arsenal, as he is unlikely to be a part of their first team anytime soon.
In order to fast-track his career, the youngster let his contract run down and is now ready to join a new club. While Casey is technically out of contract, he is not free to choose his next destination; any interested club will have to agree on a compensation package with Arsenal or have a fee set by a tribunal in order to sign him.
Crystal Palace strike a deal for Dan Casey
While multiple top clubs showed interest in Casey, Crystal Palace took control of the race and emerged as the front-runners. They have been in negotiations with Arsenal for some time and have now agreed on a compensation package.
The deal is believed to be sealed, and Casey is set to join the Palace Under-21s. Given his potential, he could soon make the jump to the first team. Once the paperwork is finalised, he will undergo a medical at Selhurst Park before the move is made official. The move will certainly aid the player’s development, given Palace’s strong track record of bringing out the best in young stars and turning them into superstars.
