Aston Villa interested in Julian Brandt
Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Julian Brandt’s situation with the German attacking midfielder in the final year of his deal at Borussia Dortmund.
According to Fichajes, Aston Villa could emerge as a big suitor for the signature of Julian Brandt. Sporting director Monci is eying a Bosman deal for the German attacking midfielder, who is already into the final year of his deal at Borussia Dortmund.
Aston Villa are not in the best financial shape to make big moves in the transfer window. Their inability to make concrete transfer decisions was evident during the summer, as they probably had the power to bring players late on following the sale of homegrown talent Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United.
The sale of Ramsey allowed Aston Villa to sign two key attackers before the deadline, as Jadon Sancho arrived on loan while Harvey Elliott joined from Liverpool on a permanent deal. The latter is quite an intriguing signing, but there are some questions as to where he would feature.
There was a feeling that Aston Villa wanted a new attacking midfielder to bolster their attacking setup. Their inability to sign one also saw the club block a late exit for Emiliano Buendia, with the Argentine now expected to feature at a healthy rate this season.
However, they have previously shown signs of moving away from Buendia, meaning Sporting Director Monchi will look for options in the market. There’s already a big name on Aston Villa’s radar, as Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt is a player Monchi wants next summer.
Aston Villa keeping tabs on Julian Brandt’s situation
Aston Villa’s tight financial situation could see them eye bargain deals, and there might not be a better one with regards to an attacking midfielder like Brandt. The 29-year-old German international is in the final year of his deal, with Monchi likely to lay the groundwork to get him on a free transfer next summer. The German has been linked with a switch to the Premier League for many years, and he might get his wish.
The situation may not be straightforward for Aston Villa, as the 29-year-old German international will attract massive interest from elsewhere. Many clubs would see the value in signing Brandt, but having a shrewd operator like Monchi would help Aston Villa. Dortmund are also trying to get an extension in place, to not lose the attacking midfielder for nothing next summer.
