Tottenham line up £60 million move for Morgan Rogers

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly aim to beat Chelsea and Liverpool to 23-year-old Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by The Boy Hotspur, Morgan Rogers is the subject of interest of Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites were keen on signing the Aston Villa playmaker in the summer transfer window before the deal failed to materialise. Meanwhile, the West Midlands club will demand around £100 million to part ways with the English international.

However, Tottenham will test Aston Villa’s resolve with a bid worth £60 million, which falls considerably below the asking price of £100 million. Meanwhile, a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football has revealed that Chelsea and Liverpool are also keen on signing the Englishman next year.

The rise and rise of Morgan Rogers

Morgan Rogers has become a household name since joining Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024. The 23-year-old made considerable progress in the last 18 months at Villa Park, becoming a regular for his club and country. The player has chipped in with 17 goals and 17 assists in 73 appearances thus far for the West Midlands outfit.

Meanwhile, Rogers’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature. The Blues heavily reinforced their offensive unit in the summer transfer window. So, with Facundo Buonanotte arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion, it is unclear why the English international remains a target.

However, with Buonanotte on a season-long loan deal and seemingly not a “key” part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, Morgan Rogers can replace him next year, becoming the ideal alternative to Xavi Simons. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in the Aston Villa playmaker is understandable, as he can play on the left flank. With Arne Slot not having any natural option for the position, Rogers is a viable target.

As for Tottenham, the Lilywhites were keen on signing the 23-year-old Englishman in the summer transfer window, before they pivoted towards Xavi Simons. However, the North London club failed to replace Son Heung-min, and Rogers’s versatility makes him an appealing target. The latest report has revealed that Tottenham will present a bid worth £60 million to test Aston Villa’s resolve in the winter transfer window.

However, the West Midlands outfit will demand £100 million to part ways with Rogers. So, with Tottenham’s impending bid worth £60 million falling well short of the asking price, Chelsea and Liverpool may have the opportunity to steal a march on the North London outfit.
