Manchester United hope to agree new deal with Kobbie Mainoo
Manchester United will reportedly aim to convince Kobbie Mainoo to sign a new contract to safeguard his future before the winter transfer window opens.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Kobbie Mainoo will reassess his situation ahead of the winter transfer window. The English international was keen on leaving Manchester United this past summer to secure regular game time ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, the Red Devils were not ready to entertain any bids to part ways with him.
Manchester United’s stance from the summer has not changed, and they hope to tie the Englishman to a new contract before the transfer window reopens in a few months. Mainoo’s £30,000-a-week wages make him one of the lowest earners at the Premier League club.
Kobbie Mainoo and his frustrations
Kobbie Mainoo has continued Manchester United’s rich tradition of regularly promoting youth products in the first-team squad. The 20-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough under Erik ten Hag, and his rapid progress earned him a spot in England’s squad for the UEFA European Championships last year.
However, the youngster has been in and out of the starting lineup since Ruben Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag nearly 12 months ago. Additionally, fitness issues have not helped the young midfielder’s case, and he struggled to overcome the injury problems in the 2024/25 season.
The frustrations have continued for the English international in the early days of the 2025/26 campaign, and he has managed only 135 minutes of game time in two outings, making his first Premier League appearance last weekend. However, Mainoo’s stock in the market was high in the final days of the summer transfer window, with Napoli among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
While Napoli and other clubs pursued Kobbie Mainoo’s signature, Manchester United blocked his departure, with Ruben Amorim insisting he wanted the 20-year-old Englishman to fight for his spot in the team. So, a summer exit did not materialise, with the Red Devils keeping Mainoo at Old Trafford against his wishes. They will soon present a contract offer to the youngster, hoping to convince him to commit his future to the club.
