Manchester United rule out Ruben Amorim sacking

Manchester United have no intentions of sacking Ruben Amorim despite a disappointing start to the new season.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Ruben Amorim’s job at Manchester United is safe for now, with the club resisting the urge to make a rash decision on his future after a turbulent week.

While the defeat to League Two outfit was a real embarrassment, and it cast a huge shadow over the future of the Portuguese manager, the hard-fought 3-2 win over Burnley in the league ahead of the international break has settled things down.

O’Rourke on Amorim’s future

While speaking about Amorim’s future to Football Insider, O’Rourke said: “Pressure is there as a Man United manager – there’s always pressure on you, no doubt about that”,

“Obviously, results will increase that pressure and that defeat to Grimsby was a real embarrassment for the club in that respect.

“That obviously brings pressure itself because of the defeat and the performance, but I don’t think there’ll be any knee-jerk reactions from Manchester United on Ruben Amorim.

“They see him as the man to take the club forward. If results don’t improve, like any manager, your job is going to come under threat.

“It’s a big period coming up for Ruben Amorim, it was a big game against BurnleyThen there’s the international break, and they go into that break with a victory to ease any growing pressure on him.”

Amorim’s track record at United

Amorim took charge of the Manchester giants in November last year, warning fans of a potential storm ahead. The problem, however, is that little has improved since his arrival. While there have been glimpses of progress, results have not matched expectations.

In 30 league games under his tenure, United have managed just eight wins while suffering 15 defeats, a worrying trend. Considering the level of investment made ahead of the new season, fans had expected a strong response after a disastrous 2024/25 campaign.

However, they didn’t get the desired start, and the defeat to fourth-tier side Grimsby in the EFL Cup made matters worse. His post-match comments did little to ease the situation, further fuelling speculation about his future at the club.

While a potential sacking was heavily discussed, Ruben Amorim’s job is safe for the time being after United bounced back from their embarrassing defeat to Grimsby. A 97th-minute Bruno Fernandes penalty handed them their first league win of the season against Burnley, steadying the ship for now.

Heading into the international break, question marks still remain over his future. But United have decided to stick with him, as they still consider him the man to take them forward and won’t make any rash decisions.

They will continue to back him, but results must come sooner rather than later. If things don’t improve over the next few months, United may be forced to reconsider.
